Shaw's Royster with the OysterTM 17th Annual Festival

It's Time To Royster: to engage in noisy revelry without restraint; to carouse… Catch all the fun if you can. The party scene in Chicago knows how to Royster all week long. Chase the tail of the night before and party right into tomorrow. There's plenty of shuckin' and slurpin' with another round of stirrin' and shakin' to be had. The Oyster Bar will be jammin' the blues, and serving 6 fresh cold water oysters on the half shell for $5.50 / $10.75 a dozen. Shaw's executive chef will be preparing oyster specialties each night. Grab a shooter and check out the nightly Oyster Slurping Contest. The Friday evening championship winner takes home a string of prizes, all of them pearls, not to mention a year's worth of bragging rights.

The action starts at six o'clock each night in The Oyster Bars. The oyster slurping contest, or Slurp-Off, is as simple as whoever slurps a dozen oysters the fastest, sans hands, wins. Each night's winner is eligible to participate in Friday's Grand Slurp-Off at the Slurp-O-Rama event in the big tent. Big prizes await the champion from the event's sponsors as well as top bragging rights for a year. Back to top

A premier cast of great Chicago chefs headline this evening of award winning wines and culinary creations with a touch of Royster added. After the cocktail reception at 6:30, Shaw's Wine Director, Steven Tindle, will introduce the evening's wines to be paired with a seven course dinner by notable guest-chefs, Jean Joho of Everest, Roland Liccioni of Le Lan and Le Francais, Dominique Tougne of Bistro 110, Michel Briand of Ambria and Anthony Keravec, Naoki Nakashima and Lauro Sanchez of Shaw's. Courses include Half Shell Oysters, Oysters Biscuits, Fried Oysters wrapped in Bacon paired with 312; Asian Shrimp BBQ Salad with Fried Oysters paired with Indian Pale Ale; Lobster, Scallop, Oyster and Mushroom Fricassee paired with Demolition and October Fest; Roasted Sirloin with Smoked Oysters, Spicy Sausage, Cabbage and Roasted Potatoes paired with Pere Jacques; and for dessert, Warm Chocolate Pecan Pie with Malted Vanilla Ice Cream paired with Oatmeal Stout. The Oyster Friendly Wine Competition

The talents of notable sommelier and wine stewards throughout the Midwest will be showcased from 3 - 5 p.m. in a competition to blindly identify 12 wines out of a possible 150 selections. The purpose, apart from having fun, is to crown the best blind taster among Chicago's wine professionals and xenophiles. Rock My Oyster / Chicago
Royster with the Oyster
Friday, October 28th, 3:00pm - 10:30pm
Featuring Lonnie Brooks with Coco Montoya and Johnny A. The festival frenzy climaxes with a large Tent Party on the corner of Kinzie and Clark. Revelers will enjoy a boat load of oysters while listening to the jams of Chicago's most crowd-pleasing bands! The opening concerts will be Johnny A at 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Coco Montoya at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. And then Lonnie Brooks will rock the tent right off the ground from 8:15 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Jambalaya, chicken sandwiches and catfish sandwiches will also be available, as well as Goose Island beer and more. The Schaumburg Slurp-Off Champion will arrive via limo accompanied by "Shucky the Oyster" to compete in the final round at the Tent Party. Champions will be there from Rhode Island and Seattle Festivals to compete in the National Championship. As Master of Ceremonies, Lin Brehmer of 93XRT will judge the finals of the "Slurp-O-Rama" championship. The charge is $10, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Great Lakes Alliance.
